Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going to Take it Anymore!
It was 1978. I was going to school with the thought of becoming an actor. The defining moment was a technical rehearsal I spent in a lighting booth, while a friend of mine was fortunate enough not to have to be there. Instead, he went to see Patti Smith at the Commodore.
I was pissed. Since her debut Horses, I was in love with Patti Smith or the idea of Patti Smith anyway.
"The boy looked at Johnny....Johnny wanted to run but the movie kept moving as planned. "
The link between Patti Smith and William Burroughs filtered through the New York Dolls was hardwired in me.
That night I decided that I didn't really want to be an actor. I wanted to have my own band. That was the birth of AKA. The bad seeds were planted.
